The White House announced today (September 11) that First Lady Michelle Obama will make her way to Copenhagen, Denmark, in support of Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The President is apparently too busy dealing with this little thing called health care so his senior advisor Valerie Jarrett will join Mrs. O. on the trip.
Michelle will attend the 121st International Olympic Committee Session at the Bella Center in Copenhagen on October 2. That’s where the host of the 2016 Summer Olympics will be selected from the remaining four candidate cities: Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.
Meanwhile, today, the President and First Lady rolled up their sleeves and helped out a little as they toured a Habitat for Humanity project site in Washington to highlight community service on the eighth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The pair worked on painting a wall of one of the homes under construction. When asked how he was doing on his paint job, the President said: “I don’t think you’re going to have to re-do it. After we’re gone you’ll be saying ‘that wall is really messed up’.”
