A British inquest panel heard on Thursday that Princess Diana’s lover Dodi Al-Fayed bought an engagement ring in a Parisian jewelry store hours before the two died in a horrific car accident in Paris.

It was a $23 700 ring from the ‘Dis-moi oui’ store owned by Monte Carlo jeweler Alberto Repossi, which was found in Dodi’s apartment following his untimely death on August 31, 1997.

The jury was shown a copy of the receipt dated August 30, 1997, with the words “bague fiancaille”, which means engagement ring in French, printed on it.

Sad. Just sad.

yeahso? ITA leave her alone. The fact that he bought an engagement ring, however, does not mean that they were engaged.

This is old news, was reported YEARS ago.

And they barely knew each other, wasn’t their “affair” only mere days old?
Who buys a ring in after that amount of time?

    OMG!!

ARE YOU ALL FUCKING IDIOTS!! THE INQUEST JUST OPENED 2 WEEKS AGO - IT’S NOT OLD NEWS … IT’S CURRENT NEWS & AN EXTREMELY HIGH PROFILE CASE.

THE RING WAS BOUGHT THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT & HE WAS APPARENTLY PROPISING THAT NIGHT - THE JURY NEED TO DECIDE [AMONGST OTHER THINGS] IF HEW WAS INDEED PLANNING TO PROPOSE TO HER.

REPOSSI DOES NOT SELL RINGS FOR $20,000 - ARE U INSANE? THE PRICE IS IN FRANCS = $155,482 … ARASTO GO BACK TO SCHOOL!

Is that the same ring that is on display at the end on the Egyptian escalators in Harrods Knightsbridge?

So what if Dodi bought her a ring. He knew he was now into the big time with Diana. What we will never know is if she would have said yes. And from all that we do know, the answer is she probably would not have married him. But what difference does it make, they have both been dead for 10 years now.

Tell me if I am wrong, but I know that I read somewhere that an inquest is ALWAYS held in these cases. So, my point is it is a REQUIREMENT. Also, I read there was a reason they had to wait so long. So it’s not as if they are STILL drudging this up. It’s something they HAVE to do and it just took a long time. So to the average person it looks like worse than it really is. To Yeahso?, not every news story appeals to every person, that is why you are free to choose to read what you want. No one is using her “average” face to sell anything. She was who she was regardless of what she looked like. To anonymous, I thought their affair was longer than days, but so what if he bought her a ring. I know someone who got married 3 months after meeting his wife and they are going on 10 years together, so if it’s right it’s right. Just cause you wouldn’t do it doesn’t make it wrong.

Here’s another thing to consider: the word fiancailles is in between quotation marks, as is the description of the ring above it ( “etoile” - which means star, by the way). I think this is significant in that one could argue that it was not an actual engagement ring, but perhaps, a way for the jeweler to describe the ring, i.e., it had a solitaire diamond. I’m very familiar with French culture and language (lived there and I’m fluent), and I’ve known plenty of francophonic couples who may purchase such a ring, but who have no intention whatsoever to marry, even after they have children. It’s quite common in France. So, it’s possible that this was simply a token of Dodi’s affection, possibly deep affection, but that they had absolutely no plans to get married.Given some of the comments from Diana’s best friend that Diana had not discussed any serious plans with Dodi, I tend to lean towards this theory. I also think it’s interesting that there is change on the receipt from one type of ring to the other… what, suddenly Dodi is in the store and decides, hey, you know, let’s get married and so let’s make this an engagement ring… meh, I don’t see that happening. Guys don’t casually decide to switch to getting an engagement ring in a store; if they have that in mind at all, they wouldn’t put foot in a store to make that kind of purchase until they were absolutely sure that’s what they wanted to do. Even mega-rich guys like Dodi. So personally, I don’t think this was an engagement ring. We can’t know what went on in that hotel room, but a ring purchase does not an engagement make.

All that being said, I also believe that there was something extremely fishy about the way she died. I find the 2-hour ride to the hospital - a trip that should have taken 20 minutes tops - way more fishy than this purchase, that’s for sure.

Oh, and ‘me’, yeah, off will the allcaps, will ya? Obnoxious as hell, and only makes you look like a lunatic.

Who cares? Her family probably cares. Her sons. Friends. Just saying, just because you don’t care, doesn’t mean there aren’t people who wish everyday for some answers so they can get some closure. Just sayin’.

I just noticed something else interesting on that receipt: the first ring is 600F and the 2nd is 115F (not 155 and change, as mentioned above.) Now, if Dodi was in fact switching instore from a ‘friends w/benefits’ ring to an actual engagement ring, generally speaking, one would see the price go UP, not down. It would seem that something happened in the store, who knows what… but it would seem more likely they decided against an engagement ring (regardless of the description) and decided to go for something that was more appropriate for their relationship.

Just because he bought a ring doesn’t mean they were engaged. Everyone agrees she was still in love with that doctor and just using Dodi to get back at him.

Some of the 12 year olds here need to get off mommy’s computer and do some school work.

Rings are jewelry items. Often men that are fond of their girlfriends/wifes and want to please them, will often just buy a piece of jewelry, like a ring. Especially in higher societies, where money is spent freely on luxury items et al.

I didn’t think this was any secret. So he bought a ring? We will never know if he actually proposed to her or if she said yes…that’s kind of sad. I think her death really was a tragedy but people really need to let it go. Even if it wasn’t an accident, the authorities would defiantly make sure that nobody would ever find out about it. MI6 and the CIA and all that are much more powerful than the people investigating her death…I don’t think we will ever really know what happened so I think it should be left alone.
