BRAD DOES SOME SIGHTSEEING IN SPAIN

Actor/architecture enthusiast Brad Pitt visited an urban renewal project in the industrial city of Aviles in northern Spain today (August 31). The site was designed by famed Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

Joined by a group of designers and architects, the 45-year-old, who is proudly taking part in a project to rebuild Hurricane Katrina-scarred New Orleans, toured the site where the Oscar Niemyer Cultural Centre is located.

“He is interested in supporting the project, the cultural as well as the architectural aspects,” says Aviles mayor Pilar Varela.

Meanwhile, it seems Brad was especially interested in the aspects of the project aimed at boosting environmental sustainability.

“This is why Brad Pitt has came to visit the site,” she said, adding it was too soon to say how the star of Inglourious Basterds would participate in the project.

Thank goodness he’s taking an interest in environmental sustainability because it is soooo needed, especially in America. Plus it’s a great way to combine his architectural interests with something that does the world good. He’s clearly found his “social cause” niche. Good for him.

people who “take an interest in environmental sustainability” don’t fly all over the world in private jets and drive gas guzzling SUVs. do you think all the MANY homes brangelina own are solar powered? yeah, i bet that $45 million dollar villa in france is environmentally friendly to heat and cool and light.

evil bitch - The nature of Brad and Angie’s work keeps them traveling internationally. This is something that can’t be avoided. Given that Brad is currently promoting his hit film, Inglorious Basterds, he’s probably taking advantage of being in Brazil, where he’s doing press for IB, to learn more about something that’s very close to his heart. So in my opinion, that’s being very responsible. But to address your post, people who take an interest in environmental sustainability DO fly around the world (maybe not in private jets - but you’ll need to take that issue up with the movie studio who probably provided it). Unfortunately, that’s the only way the message can be spread, via international summits, environmental conferences, etc. Until we can come up with better, “greener” ways of transporting people from place to place, flying is the only way it can be done. Sometimes, you have have to crack some eggs to make an omelet.
