Eunice Shriver passed away early this morning (August 11).
The 88-year-old sister of the late John F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy had been hospitalized in Massachusetts since last week.
Virtually hours before her death, distraught daughter Maria Shriver, son Anthony Shriver, and granddaughter Christina Schwarzenegger were seen leaving Cape Cod Hospital in Massachusetts to visit a local funeral home.
Eunice had reportedly suffered several strokes recently to further aggravating her fragile status after an ongoing battle with brain cancer.
She will forever be known for organizing the first Special Olympics in 1968. She was inspired in part by the struggles of her mentally disabled sister, Rosemary Kennedy.

Teddy has cancer
we all mourn the passing of an exceptional woman. What she has done for our “special” citizens will never be forgotten!
r.i.p.
This is sad for her family, but Eunice lived a long, good life. I urge anyone who likes and appreciates the Kennedy’s to watch the Ted Kennedy HBO doc. It’s really magnificent and so moving.
Very sad news. My thoughts are with the family at this time.
