Al Gore has been awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his documentary on global climate change, ‘An Inconvenient Truth.’
“His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change,” the citation said. “He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.”It cited Gore’s awareness at an early stage “of the climatic challenges the world is facing.”
In a statement issued by Gore, he said: “I am deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity.”
First an Academy Award. Now a Nobel Peace. Could a second run for office not be too far behind? I wish!

“I wish.”
Me too.
me three
Gore will never run for President again. This is just one of his consolation prizes for throwing the election to Bush.
gawd, if only he could get in the white house somehow! is there anyway for him to make it to 1600 pennsylvania? imagine the difference he could make for planet earth! even if it was as a veep to clinton (hillary).
too bad 9 facets of the film were just ruled false and the film ruled basically a propaganda tool in england.
also too bad that he sold the u.s. naval oil rigs in a no bid contract to occidental petroleum’s armand hammer (a bolshevic communist and friend of his father al gore sr) during the last hours of his tenency in the WHITE HOUSE (where he did nothing for the environment).
carbon credits anyone?
can anyone tell me why mars’ ice caps are melting faster than earths?
It is about global politics, A point that’s unfurtently is getting totally missed by many Americans.
Human obliteration by famine, disease, wars dues to global warming has to do EVERYTHING with peace…
Deserved! one of the few hopes for the USA for recovering some respect in the global arena…
Ayn Rand was a profit and her prophecy is coming true. Read Atlas Shrugged & Anthem. We’re all doomed.
Congrats Al! With Gore’s cause he’s much more valuable than to be a president.
Ya, well, they’re talking about taking the academy award away for all the lies told in that ‘Convenient Lie’ movie…. and I hope they do!!!
Whoo hoo! As for the dems I’m pretty happy with the candidates we have now. Gore is not tough enough to be in the White House. He capitulated waay too easily when he ought to have fought harder in 2000. He won that election! Even now when he has the opportunity to come out harder against our own harmful policies and idiotic president, he takes a soft shoe approach. I don’t like that. If Gore were a tougher politician I’d back him in a second. But he isn’t and that’s okay cuz he is doing fantastic things for the environment. In that I completely support him. He’s exactly where he belongs. He had his chance and really blew it.
adam, please source the 9 facets of the film you say were ruled false?? i know the crazies say “global warming is a hoax” so i don’t care about the propaganda tidbit, but what 9 facets are you talking about? I trust what the scientific community is saying, they’re smarter than me! AAAS, the world’s largest scientific body (who says climate change is “a growing threat to society”) and NOAA (nt’l Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) who’s stance is that cc is a threat to national security, and the In’tl Panel on Climate Change who state with 90% certainty that humans are to blame for climate change. Stephen Hawking is about the smartest dude on the planet (imo) and he’s said there’s irrefutable evidence that we are in dire straights. Let’s not forget that this year set a record (by a landslide, HUGE) for arctic sea ice melt off. Permafrost is melting (PERMA as in it’s supposed to be permanently frozen!) i could go on and on. the signs are everywhere, and yet you still have ostich’s hiding their head in the sand saying there’s no problem. the next generation is going to look at us with scorn and spite. we are selfish and STUPID if we do not correct this problem IMMEDIATELY. we have the resources, the technology, let’s fucking run with it!
Hah! Ayn Rand was a “profit?” Yer killing me!
adam, here’s an article you might find interesting: from the atlanta journal, lake lanier has 3 months supply of water left. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/2007/10/10/wateruse_1011.html trust, we’ll be seeing more and more of this in the next few years.
Al Gore and global warming is a joke! Just like Scientology. Just jump off the cliff like everyone else…….
This is fantastic! I am a huge environmentalist and the work that he has done in raising awareness about these issues is just invaluable. He doesn’t just talk about things he gets out there and does it. Seems like a nice guy as well. I don’t care if he’s not 100% genuine or whatever people are finding to pick on him about the thing that matters to me is if he keeps his word…and he has.
This following e-mail was very popular earlier this year. You’ve probably seen it, if you haven’t, well, here it is-courtesy of Nobel Laureate and Internet Inventor Al Gore.
It’s a tale of two houses.
HOUSE # 1:
A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern “snow belt,” either. It’s in the South.
HOUSE # 2:
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every “green” feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets
goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.
HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker) Al Gore.
HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as “the Texas White House,” it is the private residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.
Wow.
The obvious conclusion is that Gore should have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Hypocrisy. Wait! Never mind, they euphemistically call that prize the Nobel Peace Prize now.
Secondly, Dubya is a little too extreme. What’s up with purifying waste water in underground purifying tanks? Too bad he isn’t as committed to wiping out terrorism as he is to saving the planet. By the time the Islamofacists and their allies get through with it, it may not be worth saving.
i guess i’m pretty ignorant, but i still don’t understand how environmentalist work = peace.. i’m not saying he didn’t deserve to be rewarded somehow for his work though.
anyhoo.. “an inconvenient truth” was very good in the facts and figures parts, but i hated all the personal clips about himself. they took up half the doco and were so shameless and self-promoting. would’ve been far more effective without all that crap about himself.
