Sporting a head wrap, Katherine Heigl and co-star Ellen Pompeo shot scenes for T.R. Knight’s character Dr. George O’Malley’s, funeral on set of Grey’s Anatomy in Los Angeles on Monday (July 27).
Joined by Justin Chambers, Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh, the actresses dressed in head-to-black as they filmed the ultra emotional scene.
Between takes, Katherine and Ellen made the most of their time off by sharing a few jokes and texting to their hubbies.
In this fall’s season premiere, George will succumb to the injuries he sustained after getting mowed down by that bus in last May’s finale.
Show creator Shonda Rhimes, meanwhile, was hoping to show viewers the final hours of T.R’s character in the show’s season opener. She reportedly intended to show George’s final hours leading up to his fatal accident.

Great to see pictures for next season. One would think Ellen Pompeo would buy a pair of maternity shorts instead of walking around with the fly unzipped and her underwear showing. Surely she can afford a pair.
