While American crooner Robin Thicke is busy showing off his newfound divatude, British rocker Chris Martin isn’t allowing fame to get to his head.
Looking exhuasted yet peaceful, the Coldplay frontman was spotted sleeping on the deck of a ferry while travelling back from the funeral of his 55-year-old uncle Angus Fleming in The Isle of Arran.
Despite the chilly temps, Gwyneth Paltrow’s hubby kept himself warm in a thick black jumper and a scarf wrapped around his mangy curly hair.
In a world of entourages, glam squads and celebrity sycophants, it’s sorta endearing to see a man unchanged by his superstar status.

I LOVE THIS MAN.
Gwyneth is so fucking lucky.
I haven’t seen him and Gwyneth pictured together in a long time.
WHERE’S FISHSTICKS?????
SuperStar status? really? He’d be just another washed up singer if he hadn’t married Gwyneth.
^ Jonah, what are you talkin’ about? Coldplay are very (VERY) popular in Europe!
Something about this picture, knowing the full context of his trip, is actually very moving. At least to me.
isle of arran is nice
I agree giftbox I like the pic. Very popular in Europe, maybe, Canada too possibly but not so here in the US.
Coldplay are popular everywhere except the U.S. Everyone knows americans don’t have taste in music - Rap & HipHop can’t be considered music b/c it’s merely noise & has NO artistic integrity - once again americans show the world their lack of taste.
Much respect for Chris!
How about not being spoon fed music hand picked by corporate conglomerates, how about supporting your local music scene instead of blindly following the majority. Coldplay is just another whiney emo band made famous by a movie star - same with 30 Seconds To Mars and the rest of that ilk. Don’t fool yourself alle, every European musician wants to make it in the US because that is a sign you “made it” and they’ll all sell their souls to get in our pocketbooks.
“Coldplay have been one of the most commercially successful acts of the new millennium, selling over 40 million albums”
“Having found success in Europe, the band set their sights on North America … Parachutes was a slow burning success in U.S., but eventually reached double-platinum status. The album was also critically well-received, earning Best Alternative Music Album honours at the 2002 Grammy Awards”
“In December 2003, they were named by readers of Rolling Stone magazine as the best artist and the best band of the year”
“A Rush of Blood to the Head won two trophies at the 2003 Grammy Awards. At the 2004 Grammy Awards, Coldplay earned Record of the Year honours for “Clocks”. The album was also named to Rolling Stone’s 2003 list of the 500 Greatest Albums at number 473″
“Their 2005 Album ‘X&Y’ [3rd Album] went to Number 1 in the U.S.A, Their 2002 Album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ [2nd Album] went to Number 5 in the U.S.A”
“X&Y was the #1 best-selling album worldwide in 2005; it shifted 8.3 million units during the year”
x&y was the best selling album in the world in ‘05? - wow! it was a brilliant album.
Allie, you apparently no nothing about hip-hop music. Chris Martin has worked with Kanye and Jay-z, so he must think hip hop music has artistic integrity. If you stop listening to “hip-pop” or the mainstream rap bullshit, then you will understand a lot of hip-hop has politcal and social lyrics, its not all about women, drugs, and bling. ( The Roots, Common, KRS-ONE, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Little Brother, etc)…. Besides, Coldplay is popular here is the U.S.
I can’t say that I’ve ever even heard of this group but in a world where the Spice Girls concert sells out in less than a minute I’m kind of glad I’m not up on today’s music scene.
Coldplay are VERY popular is the US….what are you people talking about?
I wasn’t crazy about them until I saw them live- Fiona Apple (my musical GODDESS) was opening for them. They were fantastic live. Chris Martin is wonderful, and has such personality ontage. Love them now.
hitman. . . I think you might be overestimating Chris Martin’s motivation for working with Kanye or Jay-z. It’s more likely commercially-driven than related to artistic integrity. Eh, it’s *all* overrated crap, even the better stuff, regardless of genre. Just depends on what your guilty pleasure is.
what? i love coldplay. they were famous before he married gwyneth! i think because he married her, they lost a little credibility (cuz people don’t like her maybe?). some of my snobby music friends were so pissed they married. hahaha
i think this type of ‘fame’ is the best: be respected and known for what you do, make a great living and have celeb perks, yet still have a life without annoying paparazzis in your face.
i love him : ) thanks for the cute pic!!
X&Y is among my favorite albums, and just because it’s COMMERCIAL doesn’t mean it can’t be good. Quit the bullshit. Music snobs are the fucking worst people in the world to listen/talk to. 30STM have really great music too, their fame is NOT just due to Jared’s fame. Hitman- nice selection rappers, I love everyone of them. Although, I don’t know who Little Brother is.
.
.
Anyway, did I her rumblings somewhere dad their marriage was on the rocks? *please please GOD* He is too good for miss Paltrow Almighty.
dad= that Ha HA Ha.. How the hell did I write dad instead of that.
yeah, I heard that he was less than discrete about cheating on her…
It’s pretty bad when you can’t even sleep without getting your picture taken.
That goes beyond ‘invasion or privacy’ and borderlines ’super fucking creepy’.
hitman– Yup, that’s about all I’ll listen to regarding the genre– progressive/socially conscious rap/hip-hop. Great picks, btw…. the ones you listed are among my favorites. Black Star ftw ;o).
.
On topic: I agree, the Chris Martin pic is very endearing. It reminds me of when I was stranded in Portugal (missed my flight and all other flights were booked for the next couple days) this past summer and since all hotels/hostels were booked… I had to bum it in the airport for the first night. Not fun.
Hey, Allie. Before you judge all Americans for rap music, remember that not every American likes that genre. There are those of us that have very diverse tastes in all of the Arts, just like in other countries people have different tastes. It would be like saying that everyone in England drinks tea all day and likes Benny Hill, just not true.
Also, on the subject of Europe, if it were not for us “tasteless Americans” you all would be speaking German right now. So, shut the fuck up bitch. (Sorry was that an ugly American thing? I can never tell).
Chris Martin and Coldplay have invented a new sound and infectious, hypnotic spirit with their music (minus the last CD). Personally I feel they revitalized the industry when “Parachutes” came out They are extremely talented and I hope to see them many more times in concert.
This picture is really hilarious too!
Hahahaha I love this! I bet a lot of celebrities feel like doing this sometimes but are just worried about the photos that would be printed about them. It looks really cold though and that can’t be too comfortable…especially seeing as he’s out on the water in Scotland! Brrrrr. I think that he seems like a very cool, down to earth guy and there is no doubting that he is a brilliant musician.
I worship Coldplay. I was pretty shocked to read all the comments about how “unpopular” they are in the US. Thanks to “me” for posting all of their achievements. Chris Martin is a beautiful man - IMO - inside and out. This picture is compelling. I am a self-admitted celebrity gossip whore - but I feel like a vulture when I look at it.
I love Chris Martin! He can do no wrong.
A Rush of Blood to the Head is such an amazing album too!
