Still in a state of mourning, Madonna was seen arriving in Marseille today (July 19) with children, 12-year-old Lourdes Leon and newly adopted daughter Mercy James.
The 50-year-old pop singer spent the afternoon visiting injured survivors and the family of a stage hand who died during an accident which saw her concert date in Marseille cancelled.
The city’s mayor paid tribute to Madge’s “humanity” as she visited the home of 52-year-old French victim Charles Criscenzo’s family in nearby Aix-en-Provence before tending to colleagues being treated in hospital.
Clad in head-to-toe black, Madonna landed at Marseille-Marignane airport at 4:15 PM and sped off with a bodyguard in a black Mercedes to the house where Criscenzo lived, where a security perimeter had been set up to keep media away.
Two men, Criscenzo and 23-year-old Briton Charles Prow, were killed on Thursday with eight more workers injured in the accident when part of the stage being built at the city’s Stade Velodrome collapsed.

She was under no obligation whatsoever to do this and she did it. What a nice gesture. My prayers are with the victims of the accident and their families.

The mayor did not expect anyone of her level of fame to go around visiting every injured person at the 2 different hospitals or to go visit the family of the dead worker and their home. She was not even supposed to be in Marseilles as her show there was canceled because of the accident. She was supposed to go directly from Milan to Barcelona, but she flew in specifically for this.

I think it’s a really nice gesture as well, and I’m always one to call Madonna out on her publicity stunts. She really didn’t have to do this, but I think it’s obvious that she has been really affected by this and feels somewhat responsible, even though it was just a terrible accident. I’m sure the families appreciated her visit.
Very interesting that TMZ and pretty much all other media didn’t report this. They reported pretty much everything else about the accident. I guess it doesn’t fit into the image of them making Madonna look like this cold bitch.

Actually no, she did not have to go, especially in the middle of an investigation. She’s done more than enough since it was not her fault to begin with. It should be the construction company and the touring company that should be kissing up to the victims, not Madonna. I applaud her for what she did, especially since she flew in from Italy just to do so. All you bitter people taking your insecurities and anger out on her need to get a life.
