You’ll never guess how much the Michael Jackson memorial costing people in taxes? City officials speculate that the event will cost Los Angeles a whopping $3.5 million!
But L.A. City Councilwoman Jan Perry tells the Los Angeles Times the extra police deployment will be paid for out of an LAPD fund reserved for overtime costs of special events such as “1st Amendment marches, protests and funerals and other special events large in scope and that have a potential to impact public safety.”
Because the fiscal year started July 1, the fund for all police overtime — which according to one source covers 1.6 million hours, or nearly $90 million — is flush. But some city officials questioned the wisdom of spending possibly more than $1 million in overtime funds so early in the fiscal year.
Meanwhile, Mariah Carey has just taken the stage at the Staple Center in Los Angeles as part of MJ’s public memorial service. Not surpringly, the 39-year-old is dressed in a totally inappropriate cleavage-bearing gown and is missing every other note of the Jackson 5 classic, I’ll Be There.

I find this just devastating. I always find it hard to look at people’s coffins and realise that they are actually in there lifeless. It’s crazy to think that the super talented, dancing Michael Jackson is lying in a coffin. What a tragedy, I don’t understand how people cannot just tolerate the fact that he as loved by so many and people WANT to see this and know the details. If you don’t want to know about it, don’t watch it and don’t read the posts.

The city is broke, someone should pay up. Maybe all the networks that aired it, or the concert promoter, or the Jacksons. It shouldn’t be taxpayers since it wasn’t a necessary thing for the city to have.
