Looking more in love than ever, Jim Carrey and girlfriend Jenny McCarthy spent a romantic Independence Day together in Malibu on Saturday.

The 47-year-old actor has spent much of the year cavorting around town with his actress-turned-activist leading lady but Jim will soon return to the big screen in A Christmas Carol.

Members of the press and various movie critics in New York got their first glimpse at Jim as Ebenezer Scrooge at the Regal E-Walk Theatre this week.

Two different scenes were shown from the film, along with a montage of clips and a teaser trailer. Every reporter and writer agreed — Jim is vitually unrecognizable in the flick. No trademark over-the-top gestures. No inklings of some of his many iconic characters.

For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait until November 6 to see Mr. Carrey’s transformation to crusty Scrooge in Disney’s A Christmas Carol.
