BEYONCE OFFERS A HELPING HAND

Beyonce was all smiles as she attended a press conference for the ‘Show Your Helping Hand Campaign’ at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX yesterday (July 4).

Joined by Pastor Rudy Rasmus of St. John’s Downtown Church, U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee and Brian Greene of Houston Food Bank, the Single Ladies singer was on hand to bring attention to the program’s goal to deliver more than 3.5 million meals to local food banks.

Earlier in the day, Beyonce paid tribute to Michael Jackson during the 2009 Essence Music Festival. The leggy songstress played home video footage of her as an excited five year old, preparing to attend a MJ concert. Beyonce told the audience, “That night I saw my hero perform… when I saw Michael Jackson hit the stage, that’s when I decided who I wanted to be.”

An image of Michael then appeared on the screen and Beyonce broke into a rendition of her song Halo, altering the lyrics to pay homage the King of Pop.

Kneeling on the stage, she sang, “Michael I can see your halo, you know you’re my saving grace…/ Michael I can see your halo, I pray it won’t fade away…/ Michael, your music won’t fade away…”

I haven’t seen the tribute and I can’t really judge until I see footage, but it sounds relaly touching. I like that she showed her own experience with him and Halo really seems to fit the situation nicely. Changing the words to Michael is a little tacky, but it IS Beyonce.

It’s not tacky, it makes the song more personal.

I’m sorry but that tribute was awful, imo.

The beginning was ok, but then as usual she had to dramatise it. It wasn’t even about MJ towards the end, just her.
But I did like the background picture, she had of him.
