SHAKIRA PULLS AN ANGELINA

september-29-shakira.jpg

Hip-gyrating Colombian diva Shakira was among a host of celebs including comedian Chris Rock, U2 frontman Bono and R&B soulstress Alicia Keys to join former President Bill Clinton at Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater last night for a roundtable forum on youth activism that was sponsored by MTV.

For her part, Shakira promised to contribute $40 million to help reconstruct areas in South America hit by recent natural disasters.

The internationally loved singer will contribute the amount from the foundation Latin America for Solidarity Foundation (ALAS), which she co-founded with Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Sorta puts Angelina Jolie`s tearful plea to shame, n’est-ce pas?

Shakira has always been philanthropic. Angelina’s acts of good will are great, but people should stop placing on her a pedestal for all charity acts– it’s not productive to compare charitable acts, either. Anyone doing any amount of philanthropy is a good thing, it should be encouraged. There are so many problem areas in South America, especially with the recent earthquake that hit Peru… so major kudos to Shakira. Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of my idols :o), he’s brilliant.

Talk about putting it out there !!1 WOW–any other entertainment celeb’s throw 40mil of their own money into the pot???? frankly I did not think she was worth that much money that she could part with 40mil.–good for her..

A monsterous gift. Nothing like Angelina. When did Angelina give 40 million of her own money ? NEVER. These websites live in a bubble that has nothing to do with the real world.

It’s not her own money you idiots. The money is contributed from the charity she co-funded. Most of the money has been donated by regular Joe’s and Jane’s. She probably put in a mill for the hell of it.

Celebrities should not be financing relief efforts. This should be done by the Government and big business working together. It’s a drop in the bucket on a world scale.

I am so glad Angelina Jolie invented the United Nations. She is so pretty. America needs a pretty President. Who cares about politics, as long as she is pretty. That is why America is so great now. George Bush looked better than John Kerry and that is all that matters. Angelina invented charity. She is a saint who likes her brother a lot. She is saving the world single handedly with brotherly love. She should win the Nobel prize for best make up or something.

Sharkira is a sell out. When she was a Star in South American she had dark hair and as soon as she crossed over the American she went right for the peroxide to assulate. That’s sad to me.

SO???Why do you give a fuck what haircolor she has? What’s in it to you bitch? She can color her hair green for all she wants. As long as she continues to be a good person and do good, there will be people who appreciate her. Stop being so hostile, you are pathetic. A haircolor doesn’t make a sell-out. Check your facts stupid.

    that’s really awesome of shakira.
non-angry anonymous is correct: the $40 million is not entirely out of her pocket. she co-founded “the latin america for solidarity foundation”… so we can thank everyone else who contributed to her charity to total the huge $40 million.

shakira is great, ALAS (whicn means wings in spanish América Latina en Acción Social) was not only cofounded her and García Márquez, but also by mexican rock band Mana, spanish singer Alejandro Sanz and argentinian singer Diego Torrers, among other latin artists.

Cindy: sell out for you, evolution for others. She is def. not the same young girl “Barranquillera” (from a small town in the caribean coast of Colombia) that came to Bogota (capital of Colombia) to “launch” her career long ago… She is a story of triumph, like her hair style or not…. Besides she has a character that transcends language, hair color or even the machine of pop music: please try to see beyond the surface, even if it seems soooo difficult.

umm i think you guys forget that angelina donates HALF of her income to charities (which im sure adds up to more that $40 mill).

plus its been proven that bono does aol this charity work but doesnt actually donate that much. in 2005 britney spears (during her im having kids not working phase) donated like 10x as much as he did. he just does it for publicity. people like angelina and britney (not that i am huge fans..i just have to point out the injustice here…) donate a lot of money, but just because they dont send out a press release and have a concert to announce it doesnt make them any less of people, in fact it probably is better. think of how much time and money was wasted to announce all this (what…do you guys really think they all performed for free? would y9ou work a day at your job for free if it was just to announce not collect donations?) that could have been used to help impoverished areas?

^Jess you are like the dumbest human being on earth. Literally.. Angelina doesn’t send out a press release? Doesn’t she have a conference every freaking day? Seriously, did you just land on planet Earth? Cause on this planet, we all know that Angelina loves every bit of media she is getting, and is just as bad as Bono when it comes to publicity. Britney needs to turn her charity actions towards herself first, and then help the world. Nuff Said.

  19. September-30-2007 @ 5:11 pm

well anon, if you knew me you’d retract your comment about my mental abilities immediately.

anyways…onto the content of your comment.

ill totally give you the britney thing. lol. yes. she needs to take care of herself. that was just an example to polarize how little bono actually gives.

angelina has said before that she doesnt announce 2/3 of what she donates because she doesnt want to draw attention to herself. the latest things shes done arent her releases…they are accessible to anyone with internet and a desire to see, unfortunately it takes a high profile celebrity like angelina to bring attention of these things to the basic united states citizen.

    September-30-2007 @ 5:37 pm

jess… AJ’s donations do not equate or exceed 40 mill (she announced it was a third (1/3) of her paycheck to charitable causes). Although what you pointed out about Bono is true– he doesn’t donate a lot of money in comparison to other celebrities– but he does donate a lot of his time. That says a lot in and of itself. Here’s a list of 2006’s biggest celebrity givers (personal public donations)… Oprah very obviously tops the list ;o)– she’s outstanding: http://www.givingback.org/GivingBack30.html
    .
In any case, the fact that these people care enough to do something– anything– about issues like these is what matters. Anyone can be philanthropic– organize fund raisers for the issues you find to be particularly important, get involved in your community. Volunteer, intern, whatever. I started off with volunteering at animal shelters, then branched out to other passions. That’s the great thing about it- you can make it about your passions (Love animals? Volunteer at shelters and become a “foster parent”. Love music? Organize fund raisers to promote music events and learning in your community, and so on).

When I read it I thought she said she was giving the $40 million herself, and now I realize its through her company. Is she trying to make it look like it was coming out of her pocket? I didn’t think she was that rich to give away that much money.
Its a very generous amount though.
I do agree with Reality Is, it should be the government that pays for disasters like these. Look at the Hurricane Katrina hit areas, they had to depend on celebrities and people at home to donate money. Yet the republican and democratic parties raise billions of dollars for their candidates, but can’t get together to raise money for those people. Its only because they were poor people and the rich doesn’t care if they live or die.

Hey “anonymous” you are kind of rough on folks !!!–having said that I have to thank you for setting us straight on the 40mil thing. When I first read that piece I kind of thought that was a bit much for a singer like her to fork over. Now I get it…

    lol @ juicy girl

  25. October-1-2007 @ 12:26 am

thanks for clarifying aysla…although im sure angelinas donations vary from year to year. i just want to point out i was referencing 2005 not 2006. i admit i was wrong on the 1/2 but the 1/3 is still a hefty amount for personal donations…

i never meant to undermine anyones donations/time. i just wanted to point out that for the “effort” bono was putting out, his contributions sure didnt match the percentages of incomes most celebs donate. i just think that it would be nice if he would put his money where his mouth is because he is getting publicity for the causes but also getting his own name in the press…he makes enough money to contribute more..

  26. Pak31
    October-1-2007 @ 10:11 am

TO realityis, why shouldn’t celebs put out their own money for these types of things? They make so much money that they will never use in a lifetime. I would love to donate but I need to survive on this little amount I make. If everyone of those rich celebs dontated just $100,000 of their own money that would be a sh*&load of cash. Plus it wouldn’t affect them a bit, but they are greedy.

They are both hypocrites. Money does not grow on trees. It only circulates. So when the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Not just some of the time. But all of the time. In other words, super rich people like Skakira, Angelina, and Bono CAUSE more poverty by collecting so much money to begin with. It does not matter how stupid their fans are. Most people don’t understand economics. So its wrong to take so much of their money for movies, DVDs, CD, concert tickets and all that stuff. Celebrities make crazy insane money from their ignorant fans, give back a portion, and then call themselves humanitarians. If these people are “humanitarians”, then there will ALWAYS be millions of people living in poverty. Don’t take my word for it. Ask any professor of economics. Extreme wealth just causes more poverty. So they are both fakes. We would be better off if they didn’t get so rich to begin with.

Don’t believe one optimistic word from any public figure about the economy or humanity in general. They are all part of the problem. Its like a game of Monopoly. In America, the richest 1% now hold 1/2 OF ALL UNITED STATES WEALTH. Unlike ‘lesser’ estimates, this includes all stocks, bonds, cash, and material assets held by America’s richest 1%. Even that filthy pig Oprah acknowledged that it was at about 50% in 2006. Naturally, she put her own ‘humanitarian’ spin on it. Calling attention to her own ‘good will’. WHAT A DISGUSTING HYPOCRITE SLOB. THE RICHEST 1% HAVE LITERALLY MADE WORLD PROSPERITY ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. Don’t fall for all of their ‘humanitarian’ CRAP. ITS A SHAM. THESE PEOPLE ARE CAUSING THE SAME PROBLEMS THEY PRETEND TO CARE ABOUT. Ask any professor of economics. Money does not grow on trees. The government can’t just print up more on a whim. At any given time, there is a relative limit to the wealth within ANY economy of ANY size. So when too much wealth accumulates at the top, the middle class slip further into debt and the lower class further into poverty. A similar rule applies worldwide. The world’s richest 1% now own over 40% of ALL WORLD WEALTH. This is EVEN AFTER you account for all of this ‘good will’ ‘humanitarian’ BS from celebrities and executives. ITS A SHAM. As they get richer and richer, less wealth is left circulating beneath them. This is the single greatest underlying cause for the current US recession. The middle class can no longer afford to sustain their share of the economy. Their wealth has been gradually transfered to the richest 1%. One way or another, we suffer because of their incredible greed. We are talking about TRILLIONS of dollars. Transfered FROM US TO THEM. Over a period of about 27 years. Thats Reaganomics for you. The wealth does not ‘trickle down’ as we were told it would. It just accumulates at the top. Shrinking the middle class and expanding the lower class. Causing a domino effect of socio-economic problems. But the rich will never stop. They will never settle for a reasonable share of ANYTHING. They will do whatever it takes to get even richer. Leaving even less of the pie for the other 99% of us to share. At the same time, they throw back a few tax deductable crumbs and call themselves ‘humanitarians’. IT CAN’T WORK THIS WAY. This is going to end just like a game of Monopoly. The current US recession will drag on for years and lead into the worst US depression of all time. The richest 1% will live like royalty while the rest of us fight over jobs, food, and gasoline. Crime, poverty, and suicide will skyrocket. So don’t fall for all of this PR CRAP from Hollywood, Pro Sports, and Wall Street PIGS. ITS A SHAM. Remember: They are filthy rich EVEN AFTER their tax deductable contributions. Greedy pigs. Now, we are headed for the worst economic and cultural crisis of all time. SEND A “THANK YOU” NOTE TO YOUR FAVORITE MILLIONAIRE. ITS THEIR FAULT. I’m not discounting other factors like China, sub-prime, or gas prices. But all of those factors combined still pale in comparison to that HUGE transfer of wealth to the rich. Anyway, those other factors are all related and further aggrivated because of GREED. If it weren’t for the OBSCENE distribution of wealth within our country, there never would have been such a market for sub-prime to begin with. Which by the way, was another trick whipped up by greedy bankers and executives. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. The credit industry has been ENDORSED by people like Oprah, Ellen, Dr Phil, and many other celebrities. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. So don’t fall for their ‘humanitarian’ BS. ITS A SHAM. NOTHING BUT TAX DEDUCTABLE PR CRAP. Bottom line: The richest 1% will soon tank the largest economy in the world. It will be like nothing we’ve ever seen before. and thats just the beginning. Greed will eventually tank every major economy in the world. Causing millions to suffer and die. Oprah, Angelina, Brad, Bono, and Bill are not part of the solution. They are part of the problem. EXTREME WEALTH HAS MADE WORLD PROSPERITY ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. WITHOUT WORLD PROSPERITY, THERE WILL NEVER BE WORLD PEACE OR ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE. GREED KILLS. IT WILL BE OUR DOWNFALL. Of course, the rich will throw a fit and call me a madman. Of course, their ignorant fans will do the same. You have to expect that. But I speak the truth. If you don’t believe me, then copy this entry and run it by any professor of economics or socio-economics. Then tell a friend. Call the local radio station. Re-post this entry or put it in your own words. Be one of the first to predict the worst economic and cultural crisis of all time and explain its cause. WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE.

At a conservative estimate I’d say Shakiras worth atleast $150 million. She’s had a career since she was 13 which is 18 years. Also writes all her own songs which means LOTS of royalties.

Haha clearly you don’t know Shakira… she’s been in this business for longer than half of her fans have been alive. And she still hasn’t changed… she’s always been graceful, genuine, generous and gorgeous. She is the only celebrity I have come to idolize… if you follow her career, her entire life actually, you’ll see just how multitalented and amazing she really is. Hence why she has 40 mill to give away. Shakira is Goddess. If I have to worship anyone, it will be someone I can prove is worthy. She lives up to her name.
