The disgraced former Army reservist whose ear-to-ear grin became the symbol of the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal, claims she can’t find a job because of her monstrous past. Ya think?
After spending a mere 18 months in prison for conspiracy, mistreating detainees and committing an indecent act, the unemployed 26-year-old tells the AP that one restaurant manager considered hiring her until other employees threatened to quit.
It gets worse — when she travels, people point and whisper. She says she has tried changing her hair colour, wearing sunglasses and baseball caps and even considered a name change. But “it’s my face that’s always recognized,” she says, “and I can’t really change that.”
That said, Miss England is now shilling a book and plans on going on a book tour to promote her new biography. And while she’s apologizes endlessly in the interview (does she have any other option?), she adds that low-level soldiers who were convicted of prisoner abuse didn’t feel they could question the tactics and treatment that she claims was sanctioned long before her arrival.

I don’t know why she’s being vilified when she was only one of many soldiers who were CARRYING OUT ORDERS! Orders given by her superiors. And when you’re in the military? Guess what? You do what you’re fucking told to do. That’s what a soldier is trained to do–follow orders without question.
It’s so easy for civilians to get all indignant and want to stone her for her actions, but the only ones who can rightfully condemn her are her military peers. And GEE, they’re not saying much, because they know damn well she was ONLY FOLLOWING ORDERS.

If your employer told you to perform some immoral task (that had only a small chance of detection) or face getting fired, prosecuted, and IMPRISONED for refusal, I’m betting you’d fold like a house of cards.

And I’d bet the farm that you were among the millions upon millions of Americans screaming for vengeance after 911, weren’t you? So-called “ignorant, uneducated, and mis-guided” folks like Lyndie answered the call of people like you and volunteered to defend and protect their country.
And all she gets for following orders is imprisonment and the contempt of self-righteous assholes like yourself. I’d venture to say Lyndie’s only real mistake was willingly laying down her life for the likes of you.
