Jamie Foxx kicked off Sunday night’s (June 28) 2009 BET Awards by walking onstage dressed like vintage Michael Jackson: The Thriller-era red leather jacket and a single sparkling sequined glove.
The host of the show greeted the audience and then quickly launched into a performance of Beat It. After years of experience mimicking various musical icons on In Living Color, Jamie ran through the classic MJ tune without missing a note.
After some resounding applause, Jamie told the audience that the show would be festive. “No need to be sad. We want to celebrate this black man. He belongs to us and we shared him with everyone else.”
Mr. Fox wrapped up the show’s opening sequence with a decent attempt at Michael’s signature dance move: the Moonwalk.

Omg Tevin’s performance was refreshing, the tribute was fabulous (the O’jays tribute) I am not going to report on the other goings on… But Maxwell was also wonderful. Then again I do love me some Maxwell. I think they should have done a SEPARATE tribute for Micheal J… I mean if they wanted to do it properly… 3 days wasn’t long enough. The end was beautiful but all in all, it could have been much better.

He didn’t “belong” to you. Jackson would’ve been the first to argue that. How fucking ridiculous, particularly so since he did all he could to neutralize or even erase his ethnicity. What’s the point of drawing color lines? So effing small-minded.

Angelina , i agree WET is everywhere and even back in the day they didnt let blacks into their shows and even The Supremes and Gladys Knight said when they started performing whites would only let enter thru the back door but they were all into their skills, so dont even stsrt with the BET racist comments. its a lot of whites that are on BET they even showed some white movies, i see nowhere where they say blacks only like whites used to do!!
After all the racism that has had thrown at them i see a strong prideful race not to throw it back and say no whites allowed, even with all the white presidents we have had (never a black man) never did blacks come with all the white folks jokes like they do with Obama, i see obama ignores it becaus i know he is a real man and he is better than that!! Tkaes a real man to ignore all the racist thrown at this gorgeous smart family oriented man!!!
