Today is obviously going to be dominated by news of Michael Jackson’s death. We’ll try to keep it precise and respectful.
First, a Jackson family member says that the late pop star had been getting a daily injection of Demerol, a synthetic, morphine-like opiate, and that Thursday’s dose, administered at 11:30 a.m. PT, was too much. That said, the autopsy results have not yet been announced and toxicology results won’t be ready for weeks.
A doctor who gave Michael the shots is apparently nowhere to be found and that his BMW was towed from Jackson’s home.
Yesterday, Jackson family attorney Brian Oxman spoke of a “misuse of prescription medications by people who were enabling him.” He also said that MJ’s three children are currently staying with his mother, Katherine.
No word on who will get custody in the long run.
As of right now, an autopsy is about to get underway. Assistant Chief Medical Examiner Lt. Ed. Winter plans to brief the media in a couple of hours on the preliminary results. He says that the official results may not be out for six to eight weeks.
Next, Janet Jackson’s manager has released a statement regarding the sudden death of her older brother. “Janet Jackson is grief stricken and devastated at the sudden loss of her brother. She is in pre-production for a movie and is flying immediately to California to be with her family.”
And finally, the House of Representatives paused during debate on a climate change bill today to rise for a moment of silence in tribute to the singer.
“On behalf of a generation, thank God for letting us live in his generation and era,” Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., D-Ill, told the House. “We pay tribute to the culture that he has left behind, his legacy,” said Rep. Diane Watson, D-Calif.

Liza Minnelli, Michael’s good friend, said last night on the news that when the autopsy report comes back all hell is going to break loose. So he was probably on a huge number of different drugs, prescription and illigal ones both.

What is up with stars and their drugs? The house of representatives paused for him? Wow, I don’t know how I feel about that. He made some great music but that may be a bit much.

I agree my2cents. A little much I think but what do I know.
It all sounds a little suspicious. Why would the doctor have to disappear if there was no mistakes made or intentional overdosing? He has something to hide. I hate this his death will be turned into a controversial media circus like Anna Nicole and Heath Ledger. But unfortunately he had a troubled life, and his death seems to have been troubled as well. I really hope that nobody would ever be so mean spirited as to intentionally harm him. There is definately a lot more to come out about this.
