I am moved to tears as well, I would love to adopt that boy. My heart truly is broken over the story. No wonder her and Brad want 10 children, If I had the money, I would be doing exactly what she is doing I would have 20. A great man once said to whom much is given much is expected (Jesus). God bless her and her family. I have so much respect for them. Wow~!!

anyone who looks at this woman and still sees the fucked up girl from almost a decade ago is a close minded fool. good on her- may she continue to do all this good work, hopefully she will inspire others to follow in her footseps and just maybe the world will be a better place.
and whatever ‘unforgivable’ (human) actions she does (drives in an SUV, calls the paparazzi- whatever) she more than makes up for them.

This is the interview I was talking about. Again, coming from a third world country, if without education, and able parents who were willing to do anything in order to give me and my sibling the needed education I too, would think that ALL I can do was to sell tissues… Or better yet my body. Fortunately for me, I got my parents who were willing to sacrafice EVERYTHING to bring us here to the STATES. Now, these kids probably don’t have anybody… For what its worth, Angie has seen, done and is doing more than anyone of us here (Definitely more than me). Maybe she’s faking it, FINE let her, and I hope she keeps faking it for a long time to come.

I’ll give you her efforts to make some difference, but she is just a media whore. I’m so
sick of seeing her face. Not only that, but she clearly doesn’t care about her kids as she uses
them for props on a daily basis. She doesn’t seem to care the effect the papparazzi is having on them, it is more important to put her image out there. And WTF is with her always carring those kids? Are they disabled or what?

Nice British wannabe accent.. And she is an acctress for the love of God. She cries on command. You people are so gullable, it’s almost disheartening.
    .
WTF does ” good on you” mean? A lot of people in here write it.. It’s called “good FOR you”.

  15. SAS
    September-28-2007 @ 4:42 am

Karina- we’re not all from the US so i suppose its a cultural thing. Good FOR you sounds funnier than good on you to me!

    September-28-2007 @ 4:47 am

for example- i find a lot of americans say ‘i could care less’ which frustrates me no end because it makes more sense to me to say ‘i couldn’t care less’. argh sorry for so many posts
ps- i don’t think its gullible to believe her, i’m sure she didn’t just make up a story so the fact that there are people out there living like this… yeah it makes me sad.

I don’t know what her intentions are, maybe she is genuine, maybe she is isn’t. But if people are willing to listen to stories that need to be heard, well by all means, bring on the fake!

anonymous and karina - well, i don’t know about you, but even if you don’t like her you have to give her some credits for all the hardwork. i don’t understand why some people are so bitter when it comes to angelina.

Angelina Jolie is a shape shifter. She has morphed effortlessly and effectively from being a crazy wild girl to a so-called humanitarian by doing things in the public eye. Audrey Hepburn (and many other celebrities) before her did a lot of charity work which was not colored by their personality. They didn’t go on an on about how it affected them. Charity begins at home. If you have a questionable relationship with your brother, are estranged (for years) from your father, and happened to steal someone’s husband before embarking on an adoption/baby making spree, it is hard to convince everyone of a golden heart that beats for the anonymous millions, but not for the lives affected in the vicinity of your existence. As for whether she is a great mother, only time will tell. Clearly she enlists help to raise the brood - help that is practically invisible. Doesn’t that scream photo-op parenting?!

She is beautiful, smart and very well spoken. I think it is great to have women like her to look up to, instead of total morons like LILO, Brit or Paris…I think she is classy in every way possible, and she is probably a really good mom too.
    A great role model.

SAS.. u were dead on when you said the same people talking shit about her saying “she’s just acting”.. are the same people on a post about one of her new movies saying “she can’t act”.. really seriously people… I can not say this enough… the hate for this woman severely distorts the picture, examples:
    .
-their kids are media (and possible stalker) magnets, so they ARE going to carry their children a lot.. mama and papa protecting their babies, HELLO! and YES when the family goes anywhere, they will be photographed (big money!!!!) and you haters are just as much to blame b/c you guys post as much as the ones who like her and more posts means more demand for pictures which means more money for the razzi photogs which means more pics of them.. so if you want them to not be “media whores” or to “disappear”, then you should stop posting, you’re helping to keep them relevant. (not really saying stop posting, but get my point???)
    .
-And Finally, what difference does it make whether she’s sincere or not? Do you even “pretend” to care about these issues in your own mind or conversation, let alone mobilizing and actually DOING SOMETHING to make this world a better place? If she’s faking it… she’s doing alot more being “phony” than any of you are be “real”. PAAHHHH LEEEEAAAAASSSEEE!

I watched this session and many other ones at the conference. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to see a situation like that first hand and as well as many others. Makes me realize how fortunate we are and how we take things for granted sometimes, especially education here at home.

Only 1 - once again, dead on.
MeSoup - thanks for sharing bits from your own personal experience. :)

Only1, why is it that people who disagree with a facade need to be ‘haters’ or ‘people who don’t do much themselves’?
“Those who are not with us are against us?”
There may be people who (a) do things and (b) see through drama. Possible, you think?

  27. September-28-2007 @ 8:23 am

Ive been to a number of poverty stricken countries. I was in Cambodia a few months ago, it’s still in a mess but much have improved. Cambodia has received a lot of aid in recent years and a big part of it was because of her, she raised the awareness.

Ick — Me thingst thou doth protest too much. Don’t take it personally, geez. I LOVE angelina.. but my arguments are not for or against Angie.. I am imploring those who stick their nose up toward the cause just b/c they don’t like the messanger to open their eyes.. There is a REAL world out there that we, here in the US, have the utter luxury of not having to experience. I just have a hard time believing anyone who ACTUALLY does things for others selflessly would not understand, regardlesss of their opinion of her, her “media whoring” around has done the job intended whether it’s for her own selfish reasons or not. In the world stage, the nameless have a name, the voiceless have a voice and the “hopeless” have hope.. I wish more celebs would whore themselves out in the name of bringing a face to this global problem. Most kids these days worship celebs as Gods.. shit some people on here do too… why not use what they got to get what we NEED??? In my eyes NO CHILDREN should suffer. I wish this world was that perfect.

Only1, your heart seems to be in the right place. I am from the developing world. BTW we are mostly amused at the likes of Richard Gere and Angelina Jolie, because they get more publicity for themselves than the benefit they bring our world. If you want to know who really does help the cause in third world countries, I would suggest you look up the Ashoka Foundation - a US based charity, who funds fellowships for innovative solutions to third world problems. There are many people and organizations doing grassroots work - influencing lives and livelihoods not by advocacy (which Angelina and other celebrities do) but by embedding themselves in the worlds they are trying to transform.

May I add again, that someone who disagrees need not be someone who dislikes. I disagree with you when you say “If she’s faking it… she’s doing a lot more being “phony” than any of you are be “real”.” How would you know??? But dislike? I don’t think so. It is possible to focus on issues, not emotions.

I am SICK of her fake ass accent. Give it up already your shit smells and we all know it does. (Well the ones of us that are still in touch with reality). This woman does a lot of good but if you can’t see through her facade then you need to check your radar.

I agree Ick, I have researched several different organizations doing work for anyone who can’t help themselves. I am a bleeding heart, especially for the under-dog. And yes there are many wonderful organizations who fly under the radar and get their hands super dirty.
    That said…
some of these celebrities are using the good fortune they have received to try and make a difference. If that simply means using their status to get the otherwise droning masses to recognize the world’s plight.. I am all for it.. and my comment about phony vs real only applies to people (they know who they are) who don’t do shit but will spite this woman for doing SOMETHING. Now, if that does not apply to you, then I wasn’t directing it toward you. Hence my comment, “Methingst thou doth protest too much”.

Only 1, you’re awesome! June, yes you’re so right… Ick, yes there are many people out there who are doing goods, and are trying to help the problems just like Angie, they may even be doing more or giving more… You can’t deny that Angie does capture more attention thus make us more aware… It maybe because of her personal life and that’s why people kept watching and listen in, but at least they get them to do so. RIGHT?

I don’t hear much of an accent, and what she has is probably cause she picks up from the people she works with, most others who speak English in other countries do have some type of British like accent, as I do. I am not British by no means, but you pick up it up if you spend enough time with those who do. I know off topic, but the accent shouldn’t bother you that much.

aww, sad story. got me choked up.
reminds me of when i was in vietnam years ago to visit family. i saw small children who should be in school but were selling gum or sodas instead. it was so sad to talk to them. in that moment, i wished i could take a few to the US with me…

^It is horrible that a child would even have to think about $$ let alone feel like his only life’s importance is selling tissues. It is such a huge problem that it is hard to know where to start for a solution! Everyone has their own ideas be it $$, education, healthcare, food…. Who knows? I will sure not pretend like I have any answers.

    J. Depp is the original hotness! I always think his accent comes from living with his girlfriend for so long. Isn’t she French or something? I don’t even know if she has one as I have never payed attention to her :)

  39. SAS
    September-28-2007 @ 4:57 pm

Angelina possibly gets a hybrid accent from her french mother- i know i sort of do. And i still don’t understand why people think its naive to be touched by her story here- i highly doubt its fabricated (is that what you mean by “she’s an actor”?) the fact that there are more people in the world living like that than living like us with our computers and refrigerators makes me fucking sad.
