With no baby in sight, Ashlee Simpson and husband Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy fame were spotted departing out of Los Angeles International Airport today (June 23).

Hiding behind their trendy sunglasses, the seemingly happily (but reportedly troubled) couple smiled for cameras but remained mum about their planned destination.

While it’s only speculation, perhaps a recent Twitter exchange between Pete and Ashlee can shed some light on just what these two crazy kids are up to.

On April 19, Pete challeneged Ashlee to an Ashton Kutcher/CNN-esque follower race. “ashsimpsonwentz, were like neck and neck in followers like @cnnbr & @aplusk,” he tweeted. “I say first to 300,000 picks the next vacation. Loser pays.” To which Ashlee responded: “Haha, you’re ahead.. gosh I got to catch up. I’ll take the deal though because that means vacation!”

UPDATE: Pete just tweeted about his destination and potential plans. “Landing (in) NYC,” he writes. “Love this city in the summer. Wanna get a place out here.”
