Celebrity dogooder Angelina Jolie flashes her billion dollar smiles after speaking at a news conference during the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York City on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old Oscar-winning actress and UN goodwill ambassador unveiled an almost $150 million programme to help educate one million children in conflict, refugee and emergency situations.

Angie told reporters: “Nothing wins more hearts and minds and nothing gives more freedom than education and nothing is a better deterrent for conflict than an educated child,” while urging the world to get its “priorities in order.”

There is always someone that will no like you whether they think you are bad or not. If you read the stories about Jesus, you ask why do they care if he preach or not. I mean whatever he said was is enough for them to hang him, just hatred

That is great! Now when can we start on the public school here in the US because my son’s school can’t even afford a speech therapist for the kids that need it.

publicity whore. I’m sick of her antics. I don’t bow down the altar of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Why does her every good deed come with a photo op and headline in the papers?? Media whore. I really wonder her good intentions as it always has a photo attatched to it.

BEEBLE –LOOSER!!!!!! ANGIE IS DOING GOOD THINGS IN THE WORLD AND IS SO MUCH MORE THAN THE “JUST A PRETTY FACE” LIKE THE REST OF HOLLYWOOD. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF AND YOUR IGNORANT COMMENT.

At least she doesn’t look smug in these photos - she’s trying hard to look benevolent and pure-hearted, like she’s never been a sleazy skank. Everyone there is pretending the same thing, but here, we don’t have to.

Some people are so cynical and harbor so much unnecessary hatred towards this woman. Let’s put her personal life aside for a second, quite a difficult task for some, but yes. it’s possible. I watched many of the sessions at this conference and I also watched Angelinas. She was great. She was trying to give a voice to the children in this world who go unheard. These children have been displaced by a war as well as through other situations they never asked for. They have no where to turn and need some kind of assistance..it doesn’t matter from where or from whom..be it Angelina, other foreign ministers, everyday average people. What is so wrong with trying to gather finances to help them out? Surely people are not that heartless. Is supporting their educational endeavors so wrong? Honestly.

You don’t have to “bow to Angie”.. appreciate the message.. get yourself involved in making this world a better place.. and M2C… seriously, that was such a self absorbed comment… the work the UN is trying to do is get these kids the basic education they need to progress in this already fast paced world.. my nephew needs speech therapy as well, but I would NEVER say him saying his R’s correctly is more important than another child learning how to even read! DAMN this country is so priveledged that people here actually think things the rest of the world considers luxuries are NEEDS to our children…. SERIOUSLY SOUNDS SPOILED AND SELFISH!

We have “Save the Music”… They have “Feed the Children”.. like Angie says.. this world needs to get it’s priorities straight!!!

We have given BILLIONS of dollars to all of these people and we have starving and homeless children in our own country. Do you know how many kids are being abused just today in the foster care system? We need to worry about home and then fix the rest of the world. We have tried and you know what it doesn’t work!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Their governments are too corrupt and steal all of the aid we give. I am sick of it. We have seen what happens when we try to give people their freedom like in the war right now we have been at for over 4 years. It doesn’t work because these people don’t think like Americans because they aren’t. Sorry but it is not our sole responsibility to save the world. I am not going to respect Angie because she is trying to “save the world”. She is an attention whore and that is it. I will respect people who up and move all the way to a foreign country and give up everything to help immunize children and you never see their face ONCE in the paper or on TV. Or how about people who work all day just to exist with no luxuries in their life and then go to the homeless shelter at night to help serve dinner. They do it because they do realize how lucky they are just to be able to live with complete freedom and a roof over their head. TeeJ, don’t act like I am uneducated because I can guarantee I have way more of an education than you. Most people are here just to get away from the real world so if I don’t like Angie WTF does that have to do with you??

M2C.. I didn’t mean to come off brash.. but it’s not the US it’s the UN.. a collaboration of many countries and private donaters… I know u don’t like Angie.. I can appreciate that.. I am not upset b/c of that.. what turned me off a little is not u particularly, more the general opinion that the “civilized world” should turn our head from these people who have no one to protect, help or fight for them. We ARE blessed to be in this country that provides shelters and food for people who have none, I work them ALL year, not just on holidays when some people just try to get their brownie points (not that any little bit doesn’t help). Children who can go to school for FREE no matter what their socio-economic status may be. Yes, there are children here that I wish could have more.. but they have the basic human needs available to them that these children form 3rd world countries have no option to in which to partake. I am all for helping here.. ABSOLUTELY! But the selfish attitude of Fuck them what about us… on a smaller scale, people who don’t help the homeless or downtrotten here are thinking the same way you are. Fuck feeding another family, I have to feed mine. Anyone trying to do something good for another human being should not be chastised for their deads. You don’t like Angie.. more power to you, but I believe your argument is more out of your hatred for her than the cause she is working on.. I can’t believe you would really believe we should turn our backs on starving babies and deprevity of education ANYWHERE.

also… the lack of education promotes the ignorance and hatred the festers in these young children who become adults with no “civilized” and educated view points of the world.. THAT IS DANGEROUS! These children in these countries beg to go to school and learn.. kids here, play hooky not once appreciating the gift they have, FREE EDUCATION! not all, but a lot. we take for granted all the gifts bestowed upon us, the children of the USA!

TeeJ, you know you were talking to me. Dont act stupid now. Only1, I agree with you on that point. I don’t think we should “turn our backs” on anyone who needs help or an education but it is frustrating when you see billions just flushed down the drain because criminals steal it from people who actually need it. Look at all the $$ we have spent in Iraq and nothing has come of it so far… That is really disheartening. It is just a waste and only helps those who want to fight change for the better become even stronger on OUR dime. My sister just came back from Iraq and most of the soldiers killed are killed using weapons from the US that we gave these people. I don’t hate Angie in any way that is a little strong. I just don’t believe her intentions are all that true as everyone else seems to believe. What she is doing is honorable but there is something off about them. Anywho, this is all for fun so I will relax now with the serious discussions :)

i love angie for wat shes doing. when u listen to George Bush and the reasons for going to Iraq it can be seen that most of his intentions are not to help but to control. What is the point of giving them weapons when they have no education? No educaton leads to easy mind control they dont how to handle their country it is exactly like in Ethiopia. They did not know how to control their economy because of lack of education therefore they decide to print money to pay back their debts and start over but by doing that they have lowered the value of their money making them need to bring a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a bag of tomatos. To see a place like that trying to fix their country but then ending up with the reverse affect is heartbreaking.
Sometimes Americans need to look at the big picture. Im not bad mouthing all Americans but some have been brainwashed by the media to believe what their government wants them to believe.
