In support of World Refugee Day, Angelina Jolie sat down with Anderson Cooper today (June 18) to talk about her work and her family for his show Anderson Cooper 360.
The show airs tonight. For those of you who can’t wait, here are some highlights:
Angelina on the Jolie-Pitt Foundation’s $1 million donation to Pakistani refugees: I’m not a political person. But I think it doesn’t take much to understand that this is the frontline of us fighting against extremists where all that we hold dear and all that we value is really on the line. This fight is a very personal fight for all of us. And these victims of this crisis, these regular people who are mostly agriculturalists that are fleeing are, you know, we should feel a real connection to them, identify with them. … So I think at least what we can be doing is assisting the humanitarian crisis and assisting the people and the desperate families and the children.
Angelina on explaining her humanitarian work to her children: Some of my kids are from countries that have seen conflict. I usually just explain to them that there are other families in the world that aren’t as fortunate as ours and other kids. … And so I tell them that it’s important for all of us to do what we can and then go to these places and understand what’s happening. So I think they’re just being raised that this is the normal thing to do. … Hopefully I’ll take them to as many countries as I can and raise them with an education of the world.
Angelina on having lots of birthdays to celebrate in the Jolie-Pitt house: I do have the twins (born July 12) and I just had Shi in May. We have so many kids that we just have year-round birthdays. … It’s a lot of fun now ’cause the older kids are old enough to help plan the birthdays for the younger kids. So it’s one of the great pleasures of life, the birthdays.

Say what you want about her, but anyone who gives as much money to charity as she does and is educated about the causes she is fighting for is a pretty good person in my book. She is not just throwing money at them, she is getting in there and raising awareness about the issues she is passionate about and I think it’s great that she is raising her children to feel the same. And Karolina…it’s important that there is a press release every time she does a good deed, because that my dear is how people are made aware of causes like this. That is the whole point of Angelina being a figurehead.
