The release of a 2007 voicemail rant aimed at his daughter still leaves Alec Baldwin in pain.
Chatting with the upcoming issue of Playboy magazine, the 51-year-old actor talks about seriously considering suicide after the incident. “I spoke to a lot of professionals, who helped me,” he says. While he changed his mind about quitting 30 Rock, Alec promises that he’ll never appear on the Today show again — even though it’s on his own NBC network!
Why? Because he says Harvey Levin of TMZ.com — which first made the voicemail public — is “a human tumor, a graceless character who lives in that weird netherworld.” And when the tape came out, “Matt Lauer interviewed Levin before he even called me,” says Alec. “Lauer put Levin on Today, and they never phoned me. When it’s in their interest to reach me, they know how. I saw that and said, ‘My relationship with the Today show is over.’ I’ll never do Today again, ever. Life’s too short.”

I should feel sorry for Alec. But I just don’t believe that egomaniac is being truthful. If there was any guilt it was about getting caught, not ranting at his daughter. And see, he blames the messenger here, not himself. Staring in the mirror, mumbling, after a bottle or two of booze does not qualify as “contemplating suicide.”
Is there some inbreeding going on in the Baldwin family because not a single one of the brothers is sane.
