Shove a cheek, Britney – there’s a new unfit mother in town!

Nicole Richie has shocked fans with new photos of the mum-to-be wading in a jacuzzi during her birthday vacation in Hawaii.

The soon-to-be Mrs. Madden mindlessly ignored a sign warning pregnant women to stay out of the whirlpool, thereby risking the health of her unborn baby.

Sure, it’s not quite the same as letting your child take the wheel as you speed down Malibu’s Pacific Coast Highway but it’s certainly not a good start!

    She’s such a dumbass. Next she’ll be going on a full-on rollercoaster & still wouldn’t give a sh*t.

  2. hiedi Says:

read the sign: SHOULD CONSULT A PHYSICIAN BEFORE ENTERING. my doc told me it was fine to go in for 5 - 10 minutes at a time, as long as your body temperature doesn’t rise drastically. She’s fine.

  3. NINI Says:

Whatever…….It does not say don’t get in.She may have asked her doctoe first. It isn’t like she is totally submerged anyways.Get over it!

  4. parissucksliterally Says:

I still think it is unwise heidi, this bitch ate sushi, now goes in hot tubs, puts her 8 year old sister in the front seat….yeah, these 2 are going to be FANTASTIC parents.

  5. NINI Says:

    oops doctor

  6. Asa Says:

For one, we have no idea how hot that water was. Everyone is assuming it’s blazing hot. You CAN control water temp in a hot tub. When I was pregnant the last thing I wanted to do in hot weather was get into a hot tub of water. I’ll assume the same for her. And for two, staying in for a few minutes would not hurt the baby. It’s no worse than taking a warm bath at night to relax and help body pain that you inevitably get during the latter months of pregnancy. Her stomach wasn’t submerged, either. Damn, lay off. The danger comes when someone stays in for long periods of time, in very hot water, because the fetus can’t ’sweat’ and cool themselves off and the amniotic fluid doesn’t cool fast enough. Do we all want her bath and shower schedule at home to make sure she’s not “endangering” the baby? Please.

  7. Asa Says:

How do we know the sushi she was eating was actually raw fish? We don’t. I ate “sushi” when I was pregnant, too. But it was veggie sushi…..to someone walking by it would have looked like I was scarfing down mercury laden fish. It could have had cooked fish in it, too. And small amounts of “safe” fish are perfectly fine.

I’m not saying she’ll be June Cleaver and Mother of the Year…but I think some things appear differently than they really are.

  8. BeJeeBus Says:

^There always has to be that one person.

  9. Susan Says:

Most of those hotel whirlpools are not very hot anyway!

  10. me Says:

I totally agree with Asa … Nobody knows how warm the water is or what her sushi was - ppl need to get a fucking grip & stop being fucking saint like … Look at your own life instead of crtiticising others!

  11. Kidge Says:

Meh…Britney did it first. She went in a hot tube (I think it was when she was pregnant with Sean P.) and wound up going to the ER a few hours later due to excessive bleeding/spotting.

  12. trisha Says:

almost all of those whirlpools in hawaii are the same temp as the pool water. it’s probably just bubbly water, which i don’t think is harmful to a fetus.

[...] Nicole Richie takes a dip in a jacuzzi in spite of warnings. I hope she didn’t boil the poor [...]

  14. Agustina Says:

As long as she consulted with a doctor first, then it’s fine. If not, then she’s a dumbass.

  15. grr Says:

When I was pregnant I’d stick my legs in, but that’s it. Who knows, maybe the temperature in the jacuzzi wasn’t that hot.

  16. hiedi Says:

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess that most of the people raising questions about her decision have either A) never been pregnant or B) never talked to their OB/GYN about this.

  17. abc Says:

I have gone through two pregnancy’s and it’s not a problem unless your water has broken, then infection can get in. She is not even IN the water, she is sitting on the step, just her legs are in. NEXT….

  18. tiffmilf Says:

I’m going to agree with hiedi and abc

  19. Kristin Says:

I went in all the time when I was pregnant with my son. As long as her body temp doesn’t get too high then it’s fine for a little while. No one knows how long she was in there and maybe she turned the temp on the tub down so that it was more like a warm bath than a hot tub.

  20. Anonymous Says:

    SHE’S IN HAWAII.
The Jacuzzis there aren’t cranked up because it’s so temperate.

  21. LikeItMatters Says:

I’m staring at those titties of hers. They used to be non-existatant when she got all skinny.

  22. Jen Says:

I agree with the others-while I was always ridiculously paranoid when pregnant (2 times), my ob/gyn said as long as the hot tub/jacuzzi was not over 105 degrees, it’d be fine in the 2nd/3rd trimester in short amounts of time (5 min ideally, MAX 10 minutes)

Some of the YMCA hot tubs here were 110 or more. Some Ys they are 101-105. So I *could* have gone in those ones, later in my pregnancy, but I chose not to.

Giving her the benefit of the doubt and HOPING she knows this, knows the time limits and temp limits…

  23. Univgurl Says:

Ya’ll are reaching with this sh*t.

  24. blake Says:

Its funny how people will post and assume things before reading the facts. If she is in Hawaii then the jacuzzi water is probably just lukewarm at most. I hate how the public just automatically assumes things right off the bat.

  25. Stephi Says:

I think that everyone always seems to be LOOKING for something to label someone as a bad parent. I doubt she was doing the baby too much harm just by sitting on the top step. I personally wouldn’t risk anything, but who knows…maybe she did ask her doctor if it was ok. I really don’t think its any of our business to judge somebody as a ‘bad mother’ when we have never even met them. It’s a pretty harsh accusation and I’m sure if people saw pictures of you guys as parents they could possibly draw on the ‘bad parent’ conclusions, just due to the fact that they don’t know the whole story.

  26. Heather Says:

I agree with the moms above. Her belly is not shown as in the water, we don’t know the temp and the length of time she was in the tub.
Give her a break- she has made great progress from the anorexic she was last year. She looks healthy-finally!

  27. parissucksliterally Says:

belly is not shown in the water, because she’s GETTING in.
yeah, we don’t know how long, blah blah blah………..personally I wouldn’t take ANY chances, but then again, I never have done SPEEDBALLS either.

  28. jpy Says:

ever thought that MAYBE she already consulted her doctor before she entered that whirlpool?! sheesh

  29. parissucksliterally Says:

I take back my previous post. When I look again, she is sitting on the step, belly out of the water….. I will admit when I am wrong.

  30. Bliis Says:

    Very careless and irresponsible ‘headline’!

  31. sassy Says:

why is nobody laughing at “biological discharges”?? ahaha!

  32. cooter Says:

I was going to say exactly what heidi said. i went in my hot tub all the time while pregnant, for no more than 10-15 minutes at a time. it relieved back pain. plus, my doctor is the one who RECOMMENDED it.

p.s. i laughed at “biological discharges” too, sassy :P

  33. whothehellareyou Says:

It says “pregnant women should contact a physician”. Maybe she did. My sister has a jacuzzi in her home, and she spoke to her physician and talked to her Dr. and she said it was fine at long as it wasn’t too hot and she wasn’t in there for a super long time. It’s not a big deal, especially if she did talk to her doctor. lay off.

  34. Maximum Big Surprise Says:

Big deal. I ate sushi (yes, the real kind), had an occasional glass of wine and guess what? My kids turned out healthy and normal. *gasp* I think people are WAY overly cautious.

  35. Only 1 Says:

PEOPLE GIVE BIRTH IN FUCKING JACUZZI! My sister did.. wtf is everyone’s problem. Lay the fuck off!!! I’m sure you all were absolutely PERFECT when you were pregnant.. man, half these warnings weren’t even out when some of you were pregnant. And yes BJB there is always one.. one person who gets in a hottub and stays in for far too long in much too hot water and forces company’s to put this warning on hottub signs.

  36. superblondgirl Says:

It’s fine to go in for a few minutes! People are so anal about things. Why does being followed around with a camera mean that you are also open to everyone’s judgement about everything you do??

  37. Ren Says:

This is so not a big deal - most tubs aren’t even kept very hot.

Although, Jen your doctor must have been kidding - a 105 hottub is insanely hot. 104 is the max our hottub gets and really, we don’t let it get over 102 even when it’s 20 degrees outside.
