Talk about a waterworks show!
Channeling his inner water fountain, Marilyn Manson performed at day two of the Download Festival at Donington Park in Castle Donington, England yesterday (June 13).
From the deterioration of our ethical norms to the degradation of faith, the shock rocker has been blamed for a slew of social issues, but he insists that it’s his association with the Columbine massacre that has significantly damaged his career.
“Blaming me for [Columbine] was ridiculous,” he tells Kerrang magazine. “It’s a lack of responsibility from everyone. If you want to blame something, well, I went to a Christian school. That’s why I write what I write. Shall we blame the Christians? I essentially lost everything because of Columbine but, if it happened now, it just wouldn’t have the same impact. There has to be that first person who takes the arrows in the back and I guess that was me.”
Manson was also linked to the massacre at Virginia Tech in 2007, when mass murderer Asa Coon was found to be wearing a t-shirt depicting his face. “If there was a Grammy Award for death toll, it would be mine. I don’t think anyone has been blamed for as much violence as me,” he adds.

Pfff…that should tell you something. FREAK!!
Hate the way he looks, love the things he says.
I don’t believe the media ever implied that he was the cause of Columbine. From what I’ve read, the 2 boys had mental issues- one was pretty much a sociopath and the other extremely depresssed. BTW-who is Asa Coon? VT murderer was Sung Choi and he too was severely depressed.
Yeah, your report is wrong. Seung Hui Cho was the VT shooter. Coon was a much younger teenager who attacked his high school in Cleveland.
Right on Manson. The funny thing is that he doesn’t even give off a violent vibe. He has an eccentric, off mainstream look but I don’t think he personally promotes violence. More like shock than violence.
Yes Asa Coon was the Cleveland shooter in 2007, not Virginia Tech. I think when tragedies like this happen, people look for someone or something to blame for the shooter’s behaviour. Why did they do this? I don’t think it’s enough to admit that they were just mentally unstable, there always needs to be a reason. Remember there was the story about how the Virginia Tech shooter was in love with that girl who rejected him and how the Columbine boys were bullied. Marilyn Manson’s music is definately violent at times, but so are a million movies and other musicians. He was used as a scapegoat and as something for the media to focus on.
