Making a longstanding dream come true, Slumdog Millionaire star Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail was snapped being shown around his new flat today (June 9).
Gifted by the Maharashtra Housing Authority Development Agency (MHADA), Azharuddin and his family now have the opportunity to leave the slums behind.
The young child star was given a guided tour of the one roomed flat with his father Ismail, his mother Shameem, his brother Irfan and his brother-in-law Ayub. The 180 square foot first floor apartment, which is costing the MHADA $8500, has a bathroom and toilet attached. Azharuddin’s family has agreed to accept the flat and will be moving in the comings days.
The family is also waiting on the delivery of the home that Slumdog director Danny Boyle promised them through the Jai Ho! Foundation.
The new address is Building 4C, Flat 111, Mahada Building, Malad, Malvani, Mumbai.

This is heinous! The amount of money that this child made for the producers and everyone involved with this movie warrants not only a salary but the promised housing that is imperative to this family’s survival. I can not believe that Danny Boyle has not delivered yet! What the hell is he waiting for??? Oh and why the need to publish the address??

And as far as those young actors, they hit the freaking jackpot when they got cast in this movie. They were very well paid for what they did (and the money tucked away so the kid’s parents couldn’t get their hands on it and piss it away), and they were promised housing if the kid’s parents met certain expectations. What the fuck is Danny Boyle supposed to do–adopt them all and have them live with him? Pay their living expenses for the rest of their lives? Get real!
He’s happier than a pig in shit so I am happy for him. But I agree, he should be living in a big furnished house. That place only cost a few thousand bucks. He should have received way more than that for playing his role. Danny Boyle is a greedy pig.
I don’t think it is about applying western standards of living alone. He also contributed to a “western standard” of success of the movie.
C’mon, people. Just because he is from the slums he needs to settle for less, despite the large scale success of the movie?

I really don’t think this address should be published. This poor kid needs to be helped properly and then left alone to live a normal life without interferences from Hollywood. I actually think it would have been better if they hadn’t starred in the movie. It’s going to be much too confusing for them growing up. Why is Danny Boyle waiting to give them a proper house!? Seriously let them settle now. I almost feel like it’s all for publicity which makes me feel sick.
Danny Boyle is giving them a hand up, not a hand out. He’s gone beyond paying them a basic salary and has given them access to education and housing IF THE PARENTS MEET CERTAIN CRITERION. He’s tried to ensure that the parents of these children step up to the plate and make the kids go to school. He’s also given them a monthly living stipend–not so that they can be rich, but so they have their basic needs met and so the parents can’t get their hands on the kid’s movie money.
How can it possibly be better if these kids hadn’t been in this movie? They’ve got money, food, shelter, and a free education. How the fuck is that not an improvement?
Jesus fuck, people–you’re all screaming for Danny Boyle to do something, but HE IS. He’s sure as fuck gone beyond what any India-based producer has done for their actors in their Bollywood flicks.
But I don’t hear equal indignation about how the Indian film industry is not sharing their film profits to help the poor actors/extras who star in their movies. No, you want to hold a Western producer to much higher standards. You also probably don’t know shit-all about how how profitable the Indian film industry is, and how fucking little in comparison their actors get paid. No, you just want to scream because you think it’s so unfairrrrrrrrrrrr.
These kids were paid actors in a movie. By Indian standards, they’ve won the lottery, and are reaping the benefits. Just because they’re not now millionaires by Western standards, you all think Danny Boyle is an asshole. Fuck that noise–those kids have got a shot at a better life thanks to Danny.
