Despite their cheery smiles, a stiff competition brews between Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.
The American Idol contestants showed up together at tonight’s (May 20) Season 8 Grand Finale in Los Angeles but only one will remain standing by the time the night is through.
Before any announcement can be made, both aspiring singers had to wait through some often times bad duets between Idol rejects and current chart toppers like Fergie, Keith Allen, Jason Mraz and Cyndi Lauper.
As the finale got under way, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that more than 100 million votes were cast after Tuesday’s singing showdown. A record-setting 624 million votes were cast over the season.
While Adam is the judge/celebrity favourite, Kris has an all American appeal that resonates with the album-buying public.
When the polar opposite pop stars were declared the finalists last week, only 1 million votes separated the pair out of 88 million viewer votes.
That being said, who do you think deserves the prize? And who do you think will take home the prize? Team Adam or Team Kris?

America played it safe. After millions of votes, wholesome Kris Allen was named the new American Idol. Despite many celebrity endorsements, Adam Lambert proved to be simply too wild. But something tells us both boys have a bright future ahead of them!

I haven’t really been following Idol too closely but from what I’ve seen both guys are very talented. I was more of an Adam girl though I have to say! I think that it would have been good to have someone a bit different win Idol. Kris was the predictable choice.

I stopped watching this show after Season 3.
All of Kris’s stuff has already been done by Keith Urban.
Lambert will have a successful career as a drag queen.

I just don’t get it. Adam was CLEARLY the better singer. He had way more talent. Why did the guy who didn’t have the better vocals or stage presence win?????? Damn tweens……….

America has done Adam Lambert the biggest favor ever. Now he can go out and make whatever kind of music he chooses to that will showcase his talent, rather than be locked in to a deal that has him making a cd full of banal forgetable tunes that the Idol producers have decided he must record.

You know what? Thank you for not spoiling who won. I knew by 7:10pm pst who’d won. Not by choice. That’s right, the show had not even started here in Cal and some fuckers on the east coast were going around and spoiling it online. Bunch of jerks! That’s why I appreciate the way you hid it.
