Looking pretty in a bright purple Isaac Mizrahi sheath and coat, First Lady Michelle Obama was among the attendees at a ribbon cutting ceremony today (May 18) to officially re-open the Charles Engelhard Court, centerpiece of the newly renovated American Wing, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The ceremony was attended by broad mix of city and state officials and members of New York’s art and fashion worlds, including Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and designer Ralph Lauren.
Once on the podium, Mrs. O revealed that she and President Barack Obama had their first date in a museum — a fact she was reminded of in her introduction.
“Thank you for reminding me,” she said. “You know, after 20-some-odd years of knowing a guy, you forget that your first date was at a museum. But it was, and it was obviously wonderful; it worked.”
Tonight the First Lady will attend American Ballet Theatre’s spring gala at the Metropolitan Opera House, where she will address the audience along with Caroline Kennedy. The star-studded event is a highlight on the city’s social calendar.

Ribbon cuttings, social calendars, gardening???? Why doesn’t she do something that is actually worthwhile and courageous and go and address all the killings of school children in her hometown of Chicago? Useless woman, wasting away her first lady capital.

She really is a class act. She speaks well, always looks fantastic and seems to have a really down to earth personality. She is also very intelligent which is a huge plus. I feel like a lot of First Ladies in the past have just kind of flitted around to different engagements and haven’t really got as involved as they should be. Michelle is doing an amazing job. Her smile reminds me a little of Miley Cyrus though…the only downside.
She is pregnant on the forehead. She should fire her makeup artist and hair stylist.
