Looks like Britney Spears only has herself to blame for her career-ending performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
How, you ask? Well, rather than practice for what was supposed to mark her comeback to the music biz, she spent time doing exactly the opposite.
The embattled songstress kicked off the tragic chain of events a day before the VMAs when she arrived almost three-and-a-half hours late for rehearsal, refused to try out the more complicated dance moves, and changed the outfit she was supposed to wear.
“”She didn’t even get to Las Vegas until 4:30 p.m. It was ridiculous . . . The production people at MTV were freaking out . . . Nobody can tell Britney what to do anymore. No one can control her. She is a mess,” a source tells Page Six.
Things only got worse when Britney after finally showing up for rehearsal, couldn’t manage the complicated dance moves, and therefore had them scrapped.
“The dance number was spectacular - without her. When the stand-in was rehearsing with the dancers, in the hours they were all waiting for her, it was amazing,” the source said. “Then Britney showed up and refused to do anything. The dancers were supposed to lift and twirl her in the air a few times, and that just wasn’t going to happen. The more complicated dance moves had to be erased because she couldn’t do them.”
Now that we got her horrible dance moves covered, let’s discuss that outfit!
“MTV wanted her to wear a corset outfit. It would have looked great and covered a lot of things up, but she hated it and didn’t think it was sexy enough,” the insider says. Instead, Britney opted to rock a spangly bra-and-underwear outfit she’d brought with her that emphasized her weight gain.
And it seems that MTV execs weren’t the only ones sweating buckets over Britney’s failing attitude. “The dancers were texting pals, asking them to pray for them. They were worried.”
And though Britney is said to have broken down in tears after the deplorable performance, she certainly didn’t let it stop her from partying till 3 AM.

I don’t think she needs to look at footage for inspiration, I think she needs to find a doctor and get help. Forget the career for now. Forget the anything other than raising her kids and getting help.

hmmmm…. first things first. An insider? I have a hard time believing things that don’t have an actual source, and even then it doesn’t mean it’s true. Plenty of things obviously went wrong with this performance, it wasn’t anywhere near good. But let’s not make things up. She was late because her flight wasn’t on time. It had to circle the runway several times before being cleared to land. That was reported that day, before the debacle of a performance made everyone want something more sensational for an excuse. Also, which parties was she at after the awards? Where are the pictures? The only pics I saw were of her going to the hotel with her brother. How could she be out partying without photographic evidence? That’s pretty much impossible with Britney. Just look at the days leading up to the VMA’s, she was partying the whole time she was in Vegas! And we saw the pictures to prove it. So obviously plenty went wrong, and most of it, if not all of it was Britney’s fault. But there is plenty to pick on her about without having to make stuff up.

Nanda she’s the victim of an overbearing and constantly pushing stage mother. Say she ‘wanted’ to do it all you want, but at 9 years of age I wanted to be a princess, an astronaut, a doctor, a movie star, and a ballerina all at the same time…that doesn’t mean my mother should have facilitated it.

Nanda, I wasn’t making excuses. Re-read my comment, I said she was out partying and there are pics to prove it. I only said that there weren’t pics of her partying AFTER the VMA’s like the story claims, as well as the fact that her tardiness was due in part to her plane not being able to land. I also said that the disaster of a performance was her fault. I really wasn’t trying to excuse her behavior away. And I’m sure the dancers were worried as hell about what could happen, but then they chose to work with her knowing what a gamble that is.

Britney LOVES THE ATTENTION, this is the girl who striped in her undies in front of millions of paparazzi in some beach, this is the girl who, the day that Lindsay was arrested fro drugs, keep on driving her car around Lindsay home just to see the mess, this is the girl who sold her private like to some crap TV reality show just to get attention, so she isn’t a victim, she is just a completely moron.
OF COURSE she loves the attention. It’s all she *knows*. She doesn’t KNOW a life without the attention. I completely agree that Britney needs to get out of the limelight and focus on becoming a whole human being. And all those solutions you mentioned Nanda, may just work….if she didn’t have the small matter holding her in Cali… her kids! She can’t move overseas, or even out of state, without Kevin agreeing or without leaving the kids behind. And no matter how many people say “so what she doesn’t want them anyway”, if she didn’t have them in her life, she WOULD go over the edge. I think they’re the only thing keeping her this side of the loony bin. Barely. So, while I agree she needs to disappear, i just don’t see a way she actually can. Of course, she can stay at home, and not traipse around town and whatnot. And she should spend a lot more time in the solitude of her home. But I don’t think ANYONE should have to stay holed up at home indefinitely just to avoid the paps. Also, I’ve seen pics of Lindsey at least twice a week since she’s been in rehab. Just saying.

I am definitely NOT defending Britney but please stop talking about this “weight gain!” Yes, styling choices did leave much to be desired, but for a woman who has had two children; she looks perfectly healthy and normal. I know celebrities are held to higher standards than us common folk, but please think before you post about something as sensitive as women and weight issues. I for one, think my body is fine, but I wouldn’t have had the guts to show it in a bikini in front of a thousand critics. I think she needs to: A) Fire her manager today. B) Reconnect with the team that guided her career in her heyday. C) Hire a killer PR firm to clean up her image D) hire the best trainer in the business C) Get a serious attitude makeover. But none of that is going to happen is it??? She MIGHT have one chance left if she can put out a decent album in the next 30-45 days and promote it properly—but thats going to be about it.

Yep, she’s the only one to blame. I can’t imagine Janet Jackson or Madonna taking the stage and half assing it like that. It would never happen. They might not be the most talented singers, but they put all they have into their dancing. Britney just doesn’t care anymore.

When you are as good a dancer as Britney used to be its very hard to lose that talent. I don’t think its a case of she couldn’t do the moves but that she couldn’t be bothered to do them. It seems to me that despite MTV, Sarah Silverman etc working against her that she didn’t really want to do this performance. It was probably all organised by her people for her comeback. I don’t think she wants to be in this business anymore, hence her lack of enthusiasm and her cancelling things at the last minute all the time. As much as I’d love for her to make a comeback I think she needs to go back to Louisiana for a while and figure out what she really wants in her life.
If she didn’t really want to perform then she didn’t have to, period. I still don’t know what to make of it. I just feel bad for her. I think she’s on meds or something. She just seemed like she was in such a daze.
