Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama were among the many celebrities, politicians and/or public figures who hit up the Lincoln Center in New York City today (May 5) to celebrate Time magazine’s annual list of the year’s most influential people.
Before announcing that the new administration plans to create a Social Innovation Fund to help inventive non-profit groups and social entrepreneurs, the First Lady opened the star-studded gala by asking attendees to encourage young people to chase after careers in public service and social innovation.
“Events like this one show how truly connected our world is; how one person’s invention can create an entirely new economy; how one person can change how we see the world,” she said.
Mrs. O later went on to speak about her own status as a role model for young girls around the world. “Girls who look at me and see something more for themselves, more than society expects of them. Girls who now think anything is possible,” she said. “As global leaders, let’s not underestimate the power each of us has to change the world for someone -– and let us not be afraid to try.”
It goes without saying, the response to the First Lady was more than favourable. “She’s very warm, very sane. She’s not crazy,” said The View’s Joy Behar. “(President Obama) has a solid foundation. She has real family values, so does he. I really appreciate them.”
Fellow attendees at the A-list affair included Jimmy Fallon and his wife Nancy Juvonen, Barbara Walters, Claire Danes, Diane Sawyer, Gayle King, Whoopi Goldberg, Suze Orman, Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler, M.I.A., Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and controversial media personality Ann Coulter — who did not make the coveted list.

Kate Hudson, influential? How so? The only thing she influences is shitterific movies!!!!
How much does Jimmy fallon’s wife look like janiston? And why does Claire Danes look like she raided gwyneth paltrow’s closet?
I agree with Joy’s comment saying that she appreciates Barack and Michelle Obama in our White House. I certainly do! The President and his wife represent our country and I think they are both doing a terrific job. She is a great role model for young girls, really genuine. She seems very approachable as well, as does President Obama.
Where was Zac??? He’s number 56 on the list. I’d much prefer to look at his beautiful face than most of those hags.
first poster…Kate wasn’t on the list but was an invited guest to the party along with Stella and Liv.
