Carrying her trusty Hermes Birkin bag, Hilary Duff spent the afternoon today (May 5) casually browsing the designer shoe department of Barney’s New York in Beverly Hills.
After careful inspection via her trendy black framed glasses, the pop star finally decided on a nude pair of strappy platform sandals.
Meanwhile, in a new interview with the WoW, Hilary opens up about an array of subjects, from her pro-gay rights stance to the tabloids.
Some highlights:
Hilary on if she ever gets backlash from people who object to her pro-gay, nonprofit work: ” I’m sure I do, and I just don’t read it. I honestly don’t care, you know? I think that one of the great things that we, as Americans, have is the privilege of getting to have an opinion. I think everyone should have equal rights. And if people don’t like me because I believe in that then – well, you can’t make everybody happy.”
Hilary on the paparazzi: “I’d be a lot more willing to work with them if it was one day out of the week that they got to follow me. But it’s annoying. There’s no freedom. I feel trapped every single day.”
Hilary on what she would do if she weren’t an entertainer: “I might work with children somehow. For a while I really loved the idea of doing speech therapy with kids. But I just watched a movie — “Earth,” have you seen that? It’s kind of like “Planet Earth.” A lot of people are saying, like, “Oh, you don’t need to see it if you’ve seen ‘Planet Earth.’” I think that would be awesome to go and film stuff like that. It’s just, like, animals in the wild and watching how the mothers treat their babies, or just the cycle of life. It was fascinating. Maybe I’d be some kind of outdoor adventure photographer thing.”
Hilary on trying to get people in the movie industry to see her in a different way: “I still feel the struggle a little bit and I feel like I have a lot of work to do in proving myself. I’m still just 21. But I would love to direct.”

Even if you need glasses (and who does these days)I don’t think this sorta nerdy look really works for her.
Once you start your career in the kiddy world, it is hard to be taken serious as an actress. See: Dana Pluto.
I thought it was Kelly Clarkson when first looked at the photo. Too frumpy.
I feel that she is such a hard working level headed celebrity. it’s nice to see.
I like Hilary Duff and I agree with anon. She is a hard worker and keeps her nose clean so she will be around for a while. Not a bad actress either.
I don’t think she’s a good actress at the moment, but you never know she’s young.
But I will give her props for not being like Lohan, HIlton ect.

And don’t say it’s because she is wearing layered clothing. She’s got on two tight layers–not a down parka.
No one should hate on Hillary, she seems like a sweet girl.
