PAULA ABDUL: HOW I KICKED MY PAIN KILLER DEPENDANCY

Paula Abdul seriously has to get her story straight.

A couple of weeks ago, she told Cynthia McFadden that she has “never” abused prescription drugs. But in the June issue of Ladies’ Home Journal, the zany American Idol judge opens up about her struggles in kicking the pain killers she’s been dependent on for the last dozen years.

After being diagnosed with a chronic pain condition called reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome, Paula medicated herself by wearing a patch that delivered a pain medication nearly 100 times stronger than morphine. She also took a nerve medication to address her teeth-chattering and shingles-like lesions. Oh, and she’d pop a few muscle relaxers here and there as needed. Combined with her insomnia, Paula blames this as the factors that have led to the popular opinion that she has been high at times.

Things changed for Miss Abdul last Thanksgiving when she checked herself into the La Costa Resort and Spa, in Carlsbad, CA to wean herself off her meds.

Says Paula: “I could have killed myself…withdrawal — it’s the worst thing. I was freezing cold, then sweating hot, then chattering and in so much pain, it was excruciating. But at my very core, I did not like existing the way I had been.”

Claiming she now feels “96% better,” Paula says she relies on faith, friends and family, in addition to yoga and spiritual workshops.

She is still a wacko in my opinion. Feel bad for her though…addiction is a horrible thing.

She said she never took “pain pills,” which from her statement she didn’t. Muscle relaxants aren’t for pain and neither are nerve pills.

Whatever the case, it obviously affected her speech in the past, and who knows her relationships too? She seems a lot better and certainly more cogent this season.

Good for her, and let’s hope she stays clean.

Heard that the ABC interview she did she told them they could check with her medical records to prove she was never on anything and when they went to check they were told they couldn’t. Not sure if that’s because they are patient records and confidential or if she just stopped them when she found out they would really look into them lol.

I watched that interview and it was ridiculous the way she worded her statements so as not to sound like an addict. Why bother with a big interview if you’re only going to lie or skirt the issues? She really just came off like a lying nutjob.

During my father’s battle with cancer, I admit that I took his pain pills on occasion. I luckily did not develop any sort of addiction and just did not take them anymore one day but I can see their pull. They take away emotional pain as well as the physical.

Oh I wouldn’t be surprised if she was still abusing them! It’s so obvious when celebrities are just making up shit to get a headline. Paula is a publicity whore and if she’s not getting enough coverage denying her drug use, she changes the story until she does.
