How do you know your career is officially over?
When the Associated Press, an objective news source, manages to diss your comeback performance left, right and centre.
An out-of-shape, out-of-touch Britney Spears delivered what was destined to be the most talked about performance of the MTV Video Music Awards — but for all the wrong reasons. Kicking off the show Sunday night with her new single, “Gimme More,” Spears looked bleary and unprepared — much like her recent tabloid exploits on the streets of Los Angeles.
She lazily walked through her dance moves with little enthusiasm. It appeared she had forgotten the entire art of lip-synching; and, perhaps most unforgivable given her once taut frame, she looked embarrassingly out of shape.
Even the celebrity-studded audience seemed bewildered. 50 Cent looked at Spears with a confused expression; Diddy, her new best friend, was expressionless.
It’s official. As much as no one wants to believe it, the princess of pop’s career is kaput.

The saddest thing i have ever seen! The poor girl was terrified and afraid to dance! And she would just stop “singing” to the words… it was a train wreck!

she actually doesn’y look so bad from behind, but her abs should NOT have been bared like that. She is not fat, but she LOOKS fat because of her poor taste in clothes/costumes.

Note to Britney: go home and raise your children - when they’re older, you can show them pictures of the star you once were

I was so disappointed by that performance and PSL knows I always stick up for Britney but I just can’t this time. I’m hoping the rumours are true and she closes the show with a surprise performence. I just don’t understand MTV said their will be people in the air and magic, I’m just really confused right now.

At least she didn’t insult our intelligence by wearing a mic headset. Did anyone think she would actually sing??? She didn’t even make an effort with this “performance.” I’ve seen better at high school talent shows. the best part was the audience reactions - open mouths and disbelief. Ciara was laughing at her. Comeback officially dead on arrival.

Poor Britney!! If only she had put a bit more work into this performance I really feel she could have redeemed herself in the eyes of her fans and the public in general. She should have worn the jeans/white singlet combo she was wearing for rehearsals, that looked way better than this bra/panty thing she’s got going on. She doesn’t seem to have much enthusiasm about her work anymore….I think she needs to only do it if she loves it and I don’t feel that she does anymore.

I don’t agree with MTV set her up, she set herself up. She has opened the show plenty of times, the time w/ the Madonna kiss the time with the Boa. She probably expected it!

I don’t think her body or face looked too bad. The outfit was bad and typical. She was just walking through the motions… Her dancers were working harder then her. She even stumbled a few times. She’s over.

Oh and btw…the scariest part of the whole performance was that she was completely out of touch with everything….the minute she turned around and you saw her eyes, they were dead, there was nothing there and she was absolutely terrified.
Even though she is out of shape, she walked through all the moves, stopped lyp-syncing, (at least give us try for crissakes), and at one point tripped, but luckily one of the dancers caught her. Did you guys see that??
She just shouldn’t have performed. Period.

OMG. I am absolutely fucking speechless. I honestly sat with my hands over my mouth for a solid 10 minutes. I’m with ladybug, the second I saw that hot mess on top of her head I knew it was going to be all bad. I just don’t even know what to say. I’ve always held out hope that Britney would make a comeback but is she on drugs??? She royally embarrassed herself like I’ve never seen before. Even Ashlee Simpson’s snaffu wasn’t this bad. This ranks up there with Milli Vanilli. Yes, her body looks good but not good enough for the stage. That belly was just ridiculous. I cannot believe she went through with this. What happened to Cris Angel and all the theatrics? And after Sarah Silverman got through with her I just felt so, so bad. She had to be either bawling backstage or ready to kick her ass. I mean, she even dragged the kids into it. Wow. It was at that point that I felt MTV set her up. Seriously, everyone was pulling for her and she just single-handedly ended her career. They were all laughing at her or simply looking dumbfounded. Why, why, why did she perform???????

J24, where the f*ck, was African Americans “wrapping”, LOL… Chris Brown was great!! He gave a tribute to Micheal Jackson (he said that before the show)… Kanye was great, Alicia Keys was amazing.

She’s far from fat, I mean look at her back. Fat people have rolls and love handles and she does not. But you have to remember that people are comparing her to the old Britney as well as to the Hollywood standard. Plus that outfit was no help. Speaking of which, why does she insist on wearing crap like that on stage. She is not 18 and this is not 1999 anymore. Nowadays women wear designer outfits onstage, stuff you see on runways. Brit is completely clueless and I honestly feel bad for her.

I too feel just very sorry for her. I didn’t think she looked bad. At some points, she looked good, but not a good outfit. But what REALLY struck me was how unprofessional, lifeless, and horrible her stage presence was. She looked like she wasn’t even trying or too afraid to try. It was flabbergasting how terrible she was for the dance and singing part. She did not deserve to perform. I was cringing watching this. She needs to take a long break.

Now a “source” is claiming the REAL act got cancelled minutes before the show! OMG!!!!!
I guess like, The Palms Hotel Insurance couldn’t like, cover the act, because is was SOOOOOO tricky. So, OMG, Britney had to go up there are kind of wing it. she ROCKS!

it’s not enough to try, in this case. she dropped the ball at a key moment when everyone was watching. expectation was there for her to be at the top of her game, and she blew it by giving a careless performance of half-assed lip-synching and dancing. watching it, i can only say that i feel very sorry for her… she needs time away from the spotlight. she has very serious problems… tonight she was a shadow of her former self.

#hitman…..I’m talking about kanya,50cent, Timberland and anyone else that’s Raps….it’s boring!!..and the rock music mixed with Rap-crap was even worse.
I want to see some old fashion singing on MTV, and when it’s a live show I want them to sing live, even if they are not in perfect pitch it’s ok…because then you can see who the real artists are and who’s faking it.
